I feel like Blade Runner could the the title to a movie about ice skating
Anyways, onto the post.
I've seen Blade Runner before in American Film and the thing that gets me the most is the setting. It just makes me feel so weird. In the beginning, there was always smoke in the air and it was never clear. Everything was dark, and the whole city feels like a dark alley. The neon lights instead make the whole thing creepier rather than brighter, and the whole movie just seems gloomy.
Animal Planet
I didn't know this until we read the paper we got at the end but apparently animals are super rare. I wonder how the dove got there, and how it managed to stay clean. Maybe it was a fake one that escaped. Who knows
The "kiss"
Yo what the heck was that he just forced himself on her
Then she just rolls with it like what the heck
Then they fall in love
80s man
The ending
So he was a replicant the whole time. What a twist. Did they know that when they hired him to be a blade runner, can only blade runners beat other blade runners.

I felt that it was weird that he was a replicant because he got injured and why would they make a replicant who could get hurt easily? to make him believe he's human? why? I also wish they touched more on the animal thing because that made the movie make more sense.
ReplyDeleteso you're thing about the kiss is too true. ok that was the part in the whole movie that bothered me the most, including the whole murdering thing. this seems to be a trope in many action movies. the burly man forces himself on the damsel in distress and she's just supposed to comply? idk why but it seems like a cheap way to close the story. i mean, they already admitted they love each other what purpose did that solve?
ReplyDeleteI agree that all the smoke and darkness made it uncomfortable, and I wonder if that was on purpose to serve as a warning against technological advance in the future. Also the fact that he may have been a replicant throws off my whole view of the movie.
ReplyDeleteI actually think the point about blade runners having to be replicants is actually interesting, because at the beginning of the movie they straight up tell you that replicants are superior to humans, so how could any normal human actually take one down.
ReplyDeleteThe 'yo what the heck' is well warranted from my perspective. I fall into the category of people who perceived that scene more disturbing than most of the violence and murdering that was happening.
ReplyDeleteOK I definitely agree with the kiss--that was just weird. Like all the sudden they were in love. But in the end we don't know for sure that he is a replicant right? Also I suspect that if he is they made him for the purpose of hunting down the other ones.
ReplyDeleteGreat! I think "80s, man" is probably the actual correct summary of romantic relationships in this movie. Although really, it may be more like "40s, man."
ReplyDeleteAlthough the rain and dark is appropriate to the atmosphere, I think it's also meant to indicate some major climate event.
Well this was a wild ride, I enjoyed it. The kiss wasn't cool, it was kind of a mess and I was left thinking "wtf"
ReplyDeleteThe lighting was SO ANNOYING. The "kiss" was most definitely a yikes moment.
